Project Overview

We are on a mission to increase footfall in Tonyrefail.  When the A4119 by-pass was built, Tonyrefail did not see accompanying road signs being erected (as Porth recently has) which direct people to the ‘Town Centre’, ‘Shopping Centre’ or ‘Shops’.  Commuters and shoppers therefore can miss Tonyrefail and carry on to Talbot Green, Cardiff etc.   The Chamber is working on addressing this oversight.

Update from Chamber Member – James Oatridge (Wild Tails – Raw Food Specialists), September 2024

RCT Highways Dept were first approached about erecting road signs on existing posts 18 months ago.  Despite hours and hours being spent on correspondence, face to face meetings and even a formal complaint, their response remains the same…. they are too busy.

Project Updates

  • The Chamber did what RCT Highways Dept asked and waited for 6 months only to be told when chased in September 24 that the department have no plans to even review the project in the near future.  Proposals put to them for doing the work ourselves with their authorisation has been declined.
  • Therefore, in this month’s Chamber Meeting I will be suggesting that we take a fresh look at what we are wanting to achieve and then pull a project team together to best deliver this.  Whatever we plan to do, we now have no doubt that it will be without any help from RCT Highways Dept.
